Community Ceramics

On the garden level, our 2100 square foot community ceramics studio accommodates 50 ceramic artists that are allotted one 2’ x 4’ x 14” shelf each for their personal work and tools. The studio is designed for experienced artists and makers who have the skills necessary to bring their ideas to fruition without instruction, and who either know how to load and fire kilns or are ready and interested in learning those skills. We are structured so that people transitioning from classroom situations can be involved in the complete ceramic process, from making through firing as well as be able to work on their own schedule, make whatever they are interested in making, hone their skills and not be faced with open studio hours constraints. That is, we offer independence with support. And, we offer space to artists that already have loading and firing knowledge and/or who need more space or equipment than their home studio allows.

The studio equipment is shared with ceramic artists renting private spaces (private studio members have their own wheels). Equipment available includes 9 potter’s wheels, two slab rollers, an extruder, 5 cone six electric kilns, spray booth, 10 shop glazes, glaze mixing area and glazing area. Members work independently and fire their own kilns or share with others, with ongoing technical support for those that need to learn kiln loading, firing and glaze mixing. We are also available to answer ceramics related questions. We offer a minimum 6-month, renewable lease with studio hours from 8 am - 10 pm, seven days a week.

Community Jewelry

On the street level, the 900 square foot community jewelry studio accommodates 20 experienced (intermediate to advanced) jewelers/metalsmiths able to work independently. The shared studio equipment available includes 7 jewelers’ benches with flex shafts, polishing stations, soldering stations, vices, rolling mill, Kingsley North 8” cabber, diamond saw blade and a limited number of shared tools. Jewelers bring their own specialized personal tools, metals and stones. We offer a minimum 6-month renewable lease, plus monthly materials fee. The jewelry studio is open from 8 am - 10 pm, seven days a week.
